When reading the material, Prensky had talked about how people who grew up in the age that digital technology was emerging are digital natives. Since they grew up with technology they are also known as native speakers of the digital language. It was like a natural thing for them to know and they did not have to learn all of this material after they had grown up. Along with digital natives are digital immigrants. These are the people who grew up without technology. They had to learn how to use it after they had grown up, so it was more of a foreign language to them. This has impacted how people are learning now because it has created different types of learning styles. The digital natives tend to prefer the more interactive, multimedia-rich learning environments while the digital immigrants may veer towards more traditional learning methods. Digital natives are also a lot better are surfing the web and finding out information. This may because they have grown up being taught how to research information for projects and other school assignments.
I would consider myself a digital native. I am 22 now and I feel like when I was in elementary school that's when technology was really becoming bigger and more integrated into our learning. I remember always using a computer for school projects and learning how to type on the computer. I think this has enhanced my learning because it has taught me how to efficiently find information online. I think I can also decipher if a source is credible or not because of all the classes I have taken about research. Since the information on the internet is so accessible I also think it makes it a lot easier to look up a question if you are curious in the moment. In the past I would assume you had to go to a library to figure out a random question you have, or you just wouldn't know the answer. I think the growing up in the age of the internet has allowed me to have knowledge on a lot of different topics.
